Summer Lists
As most everyone I know was incommunicado this weekend because they were holed up in their big, overstuffed, comfy chairs, pajama-clad, hot tea on the table next to them voraciously drinking in the big tome sitting on their laps, I'd like to say that I was all about that too. I actually was exactly all that because in the drenching downpours all weekend what else is there to do, however I wasn't reading The Book as we haven't landed a copy yet, however I was drinking in and drilling through The Crown of Swords and Winter's Heart, books 8 and 9 of, yes, let's say it all together, the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. So after 9,000 pages of teeny-tiny little font, I've finally arrived to the latest WoT book, volume 10, Crossroads of Twilight. Since no one I know is particularly interested in anything having to do with WoT, I'm posting my current summer reading to-do list to help recover my waning reputation as a legitimate bookworm:
Beau's Summer 2003 Summer Reading To-Do's (so far):
1. Crossroads of Twilight
2. Following Foo
3. I Am Not Jackson Pollack
4. Running with Scissors
5. Dry
6. The Probable Future
7. The Doll's House (Sandman, Book 2)
8. HP: Order of the Phoenix

i bought willy "running with scissors" and we both really enjoyed it- i'll get "dry" probably as well; but how many times can a person stomach another press picture of augusten burroughs with a baseball cap and a sneer on his face, like some sort of abercrombie thug?
Did you like "Following Foo"? I've seen B.D. Wong on several TV shows (even, inexplicably, on Tech TV), and it sounds like it could be either very interesting or about as dull as someone showing 10,000 of their baby pictures.
PJ...Isn't Augusten so hot you just want to stalk him? He lives somewhere here in NYC and I've half a mind to look him up except that, even though I haven't read the books yet, he sounds kind of crazy.
Chris, I haven't read any of the books on my list yet, though Jeff is reading Following Foo now and says it's good other then the ubiquitous name dropping he uses.
Yes, but once you've read "Running with Scissors," you'll know why.
Ok...so after reading post after post about this "Wheel of Time" series, and because I drive HOURS AND HOURS each week for work. I picked up a cassette set with several of WOT books on them. I figured..."Beau reads it...it should be interesting". HOW WRONG COULD I BE???? Perhaps they just don't translate well to audiobook...but these are the MOST BORING things I've listened to in a long time!! There's no real character development...they just come and go and talk about the dragons on thier forearms. *YAWN* I did however pick up and read "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" this past weekend. Not as good as the last one...but it sets up some interesting things for the future books.
