Freeing up some free time

As it is painfully slow here at work this week, I opted at the last minute to take off Thursday (besides having the official New Year's holiday on Friday), to have a nice long weekend. My boss thought it such a good idea that he asked me to take Wednesday off too! Score!!
Now I hear the 'thrum, thrum, thrum" of Warcraft in my ears.

How is WoW? I'm an FFXI player and I'm thinking about making the switch. Any advice?

Sorry for the nerd moment...

Dunno, Chris. I went to buy it last night and it is not to be found in the city, anywhere. Hoping to get out to a Best Buy tonight or tomorrow and buy it. I've only heard amazing things about it and I'm growing bored with City of Heroes so I've been looking for something new. How's FFXI?

FFXI is great, but I've been playing it about a year and I'm looking for something new. I'm a little concerned that the population of warcraft will be even younger than it is on FFXI, so I want to try to get an idea about that before I spend the money.

Is City of Heroes worth looking at?

Also, I always have the best luck at the Gamespot on 6th Ave just north of 42nd street (west side of the street) when it comes to getting hard to find stuff.

Chris,
CoH is fun but I run into the same issue with finding out I'm playing along with 12-year olds. It's quite startling, actually. It hasn't been a huge issue but I'm very conscious of it. I believe with all MMORP's, there is a large faction of youngsters. CoH is definitely worth it because now they're coming out with a new expansion called City of Villians which sounds like a lot of fun. There is good play and good powers if you're into comics and whatnot.

I'm thinking about holding off on WoW for now. I started reading more on the site and honestly, I don't have enough time to read the manual and learn all the particulars nor do I have months to just do nothing but play since classes start back up next week. I'm going to have to think about it a bit more.

Have you heard anything about "Fable"?

Posted by: Beau at December 30, 2004 8:28 AM

Well, they're all a HUGE time suck. I've been playing FFXI forever, and between work, grad school, taking care of the home here, looking for a place upstate, and attempting to have a social life, I don't get to play as much as I would like.

I can greatly recommend FFXI, simply because I've managed to fall in with a good group of players that are around my age, which is very nice. But every once in a while I find myself in a party where somebody has to go because it's their bedtime. ACK. At 10 pm. Double ACK.

And Fable is an XBOX game!!!!! That's a definite no, although it does look interesting...

Fable is an XBox game? WTF? I'm still pissed that X-Men Legends is too. That completely sucks.

I know what you mean about the bedtimes. I can't tell you how many times we had a good group hunt going on and someone had to get off line because they had a book report due for their class tomorrow. Jesus Christ on a cracker. It automatically makes you feel like a dirty Michael Jackson and all you've done is kick some monster ass in a virtual reality.

Where are you looking upstate? Our neck of the woods is extraordinary but then I'm biased.

Hee -- a book report! But hey, like I said: I'm back in school too, so maybe I should be a little more understanding. Or, really, not.

We put a bid in on a wonderful converted barn outside of Jeffersonville in Sullivan County, but sadly, we got outbid. Damn place had been on the market for eight months and they get in a bidding war when we find it. Whatever.

The hardest part was finding a broker that could understand our taste. THAT was tricky -- much much easier to do in the city.

We spent a lot of (wasted) time looking in Ulster County. Absolutely beautiful around Mt. Tremper, but so damn expensive. And then you have to factor in the outrageous real estate taxes.

And besides, Sullivan seems a bit more like the country, instead of a place where horrible people from Manhattan go for the weekend. Plus the traffic isn't as bad.

I figure that we'll get the "right" place when it is meant to happen. I just hope it's sometime in the beginning of the year.

Yay! Definitely come to Sullivan County. That's where we are. Jeffersonville is going through a great renassaince right now..some really great stuff but most of Sullivan Co. has that happening, too so I'm sure you'll find the perfect place. That's been our experience meeting people up here; they always find exactly the right place. Best of luck.
