I'm continually exasperated over this damn blog. It's obvious because I've been ignoring it for the last month after struggling for the past several months with the fucking comments system. I know they don't work but I don't know why and back in the day I could have figured it out. I've trolled through the movabletype forums without much success and so I'm left with that ultimate blog question, is it time to quit? Where I was meeting and linking to new people all the time, now I haven't done a damn thing and I feel like the whole point has sailed for me and I've been left behind. It's so frustrating.

But then I think I've been doing this for eight years, EIGHT YEARS! and I've grown the most wonderful friendships with people I guess I'd never have met otherwise. I wrote some things that I thought were witty and pretty good and then a lot of schlock and dregs of course. I just can't think of not doing and when I try to imagine, I know I'll be right back and then what was the point. So I'm just thinking. I have to divert myself from all my other time-wasters and focus on relearning the MT system to take advantage of the technology that is so different from when I first installed the system way back when.

So I'm just ranting, ranting, ranting. Feh.

OK, I was really going to love it when I ordered four books off Amazon before the thing even showed up with the promise it would sync in the box and have them when I unwrapped it which DID NOT happen, but after I went driving in the snow and got cell reception, they popped up and BAM! There they were. Now if only Kindle's design team had called their friends over at the iPhone salon 'cause as a reviewer described it in GQ: "...it looks like my old Tandy computer from 1981". Cream of oyster soup color in an electronic gadget is like an avocado fridge in the 70's.

But I love it!

I'm sitting at La Guardia this afternoon, waiting for my first flight out to Chicago as a consultant. My two weeks of vacationing between my old job and the new one have come and gone, and typically, all the big, great things I had planned to do got somehow laid to the side in lieu of naps, some good reading, and snuggling with the cats and the man. It was absolutely perfect time so the needle-point and calligraphy projects will be there for me some other day.

I was telling Jeff as we were driving to the airport this afternoon how strange it is that I'm so mellow and non-anxious about the new job. It's so unlike me to be so not crazed and out of control. I think it's a combination of several things, but most importantly, I think I can actually do this work and do it well. That confidence is a real anxiety-killer, from what I can see. I'm totally loving it.

The packing thing will take some practice. I managed to get everything for the next several days into my bags so hopefully it's all front-loaded work that I can mooch off of for the rest of the week. My approach to anything I've forgotten is that I'll just pick it up where ever I end up. No muss, no fuss.

So I'm back on the grid, gainfully employed and contributing once again to the greater good of the discerning tax-payer. Yay me.

Friday I ended my 12-year run at a large academic medical center in New York City. I started out as a nurse in the ER after moving into the city to live with Jeff and continued through the hospital as a nurse in the cath lab then a research coordinator and then slowly falling into more managerial and administrative jobs. I finished with three years of a directorship under my belt, an MBA, and some great experiences. The thought of leaving made me sick to my stomach...the idea of a sense of belonging, of knowing my environment, of the safety of where I was and what I knew.

But I need more and I need to see what is on the other side of the grassy hill. In my quest for being better this year, I've tried to embrace risk both personally and professionally and so I decided it was time to seek other adventures.

I'm taking two weeks off then jumping head-first into a corporate consulting gig that will have me whirling around the US most of the time. Something so completely different and foreign to anything I've know before but I'm not only thrilled and excited but strangely less anxious and panicked. I take this as a good sign that I'm on the right path.

They cut the cast off today and while there were no maggots, there was a lot of grossness that a good couple days of exfoliating needs to work over. I'm also, for lack of a better term, limp-wristed as I'm simultaneously without any strength in my wrist as well as having frozen tendons from the non-use. I can mince around but I can't let my wrist dangle ever so elegantly before me. It's imposed butchness, I suspect.

What I just realized is that on my wrist now I have my very own lightening bolt scar, ala Harry Potter. Just not on my forehead (which is where my inverted 'V' resides denoting not so much a Muggle but neither a wizarding wizard of wizards.

The physical therapist cautioned me against using my right hand for any kind of activity when I left him this afternoon. "Any kind of activity," I inquired. "Any kind," he said with a knowing look. Sigh..Looks like Jeff isn't off the hook yet, if you get what I'm sayin'.
