Know what’s cool?

Posted in art at 10:36 pm by Beau

Having a coworker and friend who likes to dabble in music send me a demo song that I now have in rotation on my iPod.  LowFi, melancholy, and simply perfect.  I told him I want to make a movie just so I can use the song as part of the soundtrack.  I love having friends like that.

Better Art

This is an amazing demonstration of how good art can be.  It combines some of my favorite things about art: innovation, stop animation, and use of public spaces.  I would have loved to watch this getting made.

The Fall

Posted in Movies at 5:57 pm by Beau

The Bandit and his daughterI was watching film trailers online as I like to do in my down time and came across a movie I’d heard nothing about.  What caught my eye was the director, Tarsem, who’d directed “The Cell“, a movie I still can’t get out of my head and not because it had J.Lo in a rigid metal neck color lacquered red (but it does).  It was so visually arresting and beautiful that I find myself still watching to this day though usually without the sound.

In his new film, The Fall, he apparently shot it over the course of years and all over the world and then couldn’t find any distributors though it was a favorite at film festivals.  Now it finally found a home in the US and was released last week.  I snuck out and saw it last week and loved it.  It’s a simple story set in a California hospital in the early 20′s about a patient who spins a wild tale to a small Romanian girl also recovering at the hospital.  It’s as visually stunning as “The Cell” and really showcases Tarsem’s visions.  Plus it has Lee Pace from “Pushing Daisies”.

The City of Brotherly Love

Posted in City Life, Uncategorized, traveling for work at 8:08 am by Beau

I’ve been traveling quite a bit for work lately…ranging from Michigan to San Francisco but have really been in Philadelphia for the most part.  Strange that all the time we’ve been in New York, I’ve spent so little time in Philly but I’m finding the city fantastic.  Of course I’m only seeing about a 12 square block part of the city and it just happens to be the gayborhood, but still, fantastic.   Great restaurants, great buildings, and a great city just to walk around in.  Even though my work hours are stretching into the ridiculous range each day, I’ve managed to end up at the local neighborhood waterhole for gentleman for a night-cap and meeting really nice people.  Definitely a keeper city.

Back to blogging

Posted in Being Better, The Blog at 6:48 am by Beau

Thanks to Justin and a few others I respect more than I could ever say, I’ve been re-ignited back to blogging.  Several things have kept my posting down to unacceptable limits but mostly, it was just my inability to get MovableType to work for me any longer.  My comments system was fucked and what is the point in blogging when I can’t get feedback from the less then tens of readers.

But I’m back with a vengence.  I know very little about WordPress so I’m going to be poking around and whatnot but I know I can post and I know the comments system works.  The rest of the functionality and neat tricks will be coming as soon as possible.

Yay me!  I love blogging.
